Your first session is free. This is what happens in it.

About an hour, just you and Ailsa or Rory, in a room with nobody else in it. There's no fitness test, no weigh-in and nobody waiting at the door with a contract. Here's how it goes, and what it costs if you decide to carry on.

Rory sitting on a bench beside Fiona in the studio, the two of them talking before anything has been lifted
A chat on the bench, first
What you'd like to be able to do, what's put you off before, anything that hurts or has hurt. If you've had a baby or an injury, we'll ask what your midwife, doctor or physio has said, and we stay inside it.
A look at how you move
A few plain movements: sitting down to a box and standing up, reaching overhead, picking something light off the floor. Nothing is timed or counted. We're only looking for where to start.
A few things to lift
Light enough to feel manageable, with one of us standing beside you for every rep. You'll leave having lifted something properly, and you should feel you've done something, not that you've been through something.
Then you go home
No pitch at the door. We'll tell you what we'd suggest and what it costs, which is the same as what's written below, and the next step is yours. If we think you'd be better off somewhere else, we'll say so.

I'd braced myself for a weigh-in and a lecture. We sat on the bench and talked about my daughter's stairs.

Rory asked what I actually wanted to be able to do. I said carry my own case up to the top floor at my daughter's without stopping on the landing. So that's where we started: picking something up off the floor and putting it down again, properly.

At the end he told me the price, said have a think, and that was that. Nobody rang me the next day. I rang them.

That's the whole price list. There's no membership, no joining fee and no contract. You pay for the sessions you have, and you stop whenever you like without telling anyone why.

The first session is free, with nothing owed afterwards, so the question of whether this place suits you gets answered before any money changes hands.

Questions people ask first

The things people check before they book, answered straight. All of them have been asked on the phone more than once.

Will anyone else be there?
No. There are no members and no drop-ins. When you're booked in, the room is yours: you, Ailsa or Rory, and if you've come as a pair, the person you brought. That's everyone.
Can I bring someone?
Yes. Plenty of people find it easier to walk in with a partner or a friend. You'd train as a pair, at £35 each a session, and you both get the free first one.
What if I haven't exercised in years?
Then you're like most of the people who train here. The first session starts with a conversation and movements you can already do. Nobody is going to make you run, jump or keep up with anyone.
What if something hurts?
Tell us, and we change what we're doing. There's no pushing through pain here. If you're coming back after an injury or having a baby, we'll ask what you've been told by your physio, doctor or midwife and work within that.
Do I have to commit to anything?
No. The free session is free and that's the end of it unless you want more. After that it's £50 a session or 10 for £450, with no contract and no notice period. The block of ten is there because some people like to book ahead, not because you have to.
What do I wear and bring?
Anything you can move in, and a pair of trainers. You don't need to buy anything. If you want to know what the room itself is like before you arrive, have a look at Find Us.
